What to expect after you have made a deposit

You’re on your way! Once you’ve made your deposit and are ready to start planning for the move, you’ll find there are several resources available to you or your loved one, including dedicated senior living professionals who want to lend a hand. Whether your interest is in independent living, assisted living or memory care, you’ll benefit from highly personalized attention.

The basic steps are:

1.Signing the resident agreement. This document serves as a contract for moving to senior living. It generally covers costs, services, discharge policies, grievance procedures, and resident rights and obligations. It also can include a list of core services, meals, included, and other specifics discussed that will be included.

2. Undergoing a care assessment. Most residents moving into assisted living and memory care will undergo a care assessment conducted by a health care professional and assisted living or memory care staff member. The purpose is to assess cognitive and physical health, as well as nutritional needs, mobility, ability to perform activities of daily living, and other factors so that a personalized care plan can be developed that best meets the needs of each individual.

At Kensington Place, we take the comfort and care of all our residents very seriously. Our all-inclusive assisted living program is an exceptional choice for individuals who are beginning to have health challenges. Should your loved one require memory care, available in Grace House at Kensington Place, the care assessment will examine their medical history and include a physical examination and neurological examination.

3. Meeting with sales director. There are many details to consider before moving to senior living and meeting with the sales director can give you great peace of mind. Together, you can go over a move-in date that works for both you and the community. You’ll also be able to discuss all available resources that can smooth the moving process.

At Kensington Place, we can help with recommendations for movers experienced with those moving to senior living. We also can offer suggestions on downsizing, as well as suggestions on furniture placement in your new residence. (Good news: downsizing does not have to be painful! We have some great tips to share.)

Throughout your move, your move-in coordinator will stay in touch with you on any updates, or to answer any questions you may have as you prepare for the big day.

4. Meeting staff and care team. At Kensington Place, we are very proud of our team members and the role they play in nurturing and supporting our residents. If you have not already met the team members who will be serving you on a daily basis, you will do so now. For example, in dining, fitness, wellness, and so on. You also will have the opportunity to meet those who will be caring for your loved one (if applicable) in assisted living or memory care.

5. Getting to know your neighbors. Once you know you’ll be a resident of Kensington Place, you will most likely want to get to know who your neighbors will be. You can do so through formal introductions, as well as by attending an event, or even just by stopping by our community for lunch or dinner. Our staff will be happy to make arrangements for you.

Making new friends and being around people you enjoy on a regular basis is a major health benefit of moving to senior living—and one we know you will be eager to experience!
